Recipe Nook is operated by RECIPE NOOK (PTY) LTD. We decide how and why personal information is processed for the app and website, and we are responsible for helping you exercise your privacy rights.

We collect only what we need to operate Recipe Nook, keep accounts secure, improve the product, and support features you choose to use. The exact information depends on whether you browse the website, create an account, use the app, contact support, or grant device permissions.

We process personal information to provide the service you request, perform our agreement with you, comply with legal obligations, protect our users and systems, and pursue legitimate interests such as product improvement and fraud prevention. Where consent is required, such as optional analytics, cookies, location, notifications, camera, or photo access, you can withdraw that consent through cookie settings, app settings, or your device permissions.

We do not sell personal information. We also do not use personal information for third-party advertising or data broker activity.

Recipe Nook may ask for device permissions only when a feature needs them. Camera access supports barcode scanning and recipe photos. Photo library access lets you select recipe images. Location access supports nearby place searches. Notifications, reminders, and calendar access support meal and shopping reminders. Share intent support lets you import recipe links from other apps. Widgets display selected meal, streak, shopping, or chat information on your device. Microphone or record-audio permission may be present in platform configuration for media-related capabilities, but Recipe Nook should only access it after a platform permission prompt.

You can deny or revoke mobile permissions in iOS or Android settings. Some features may stop working when the related permission is disabled.

The website uses essential cookies or similar storage for sign-in, security, and remembering your cookie choices. Optional analytics and bot-prevention technologies load only according to the consent controls shown on the website where required.

You can change website cookie choices from the footer by selecting Manage cookies. Browser settings may also let you block or delete cookies.

We work with carefully chosen service providers to operate Recipe Nook. To avoid making this policy brittle as the product evolves, we describe those providers by category rather than listing every vendor name publicly.

Our primary application data is hosted with a cloud provider in South Africa North. Some authentication, analytics, diagnostics, bot-protection, place-search, app-store, notification, support, or infrastructure services may process personal information in other countries, including the EU, UK, United States, or other provider regions. Where required, we rely on contracts, data protection terms, appropriate safeguards, consent, or another lawful basis for those transfers.

We keep personal information only for as long as needed for the purpose collected, to provide your account, to comply with legal obligations, to resolve disputes, to protect against abuse, or to maintain backups and security logs for a limited period. Account content such as recipes, meals, shopping lists, preferences, and support records is retained while your account is active unless deleted earlier or required for legal or security reasons.

You can request account deletion from /support/delete-account or from the app profile area when signed in. Deleting an account removes active Recipe Nook account data from our systems where technically and legally possible. Some records may remain temporarily in backups, security logs, provider systems, or records we must keep for legal, fraud-prevention, or dispute-resolution purposes.

Depending on where you live, privacy laws may give you rights to ask whether we hold personal information about you, access it, correct it, delete it, object to or restrict certain processing, withdraw consent, and request portability where applicable.

Email help@recipe-nook.com and we will help you exercise your rights. We may need enough information to verify your identity before acting on a request.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Information Regulator South Africa or the UK Information Commissioner's Office, depending on where you live.

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, including encrypted transport, access controls, provider security features, private operational systems, and monitoring for errors and abuse. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to reduce risk and will notify affected people or regulators where required by law after a security compromise.

Recipe Nook is not designed for children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children who are too young to consent under applicable law. If you believe a child provided personal information to Recipe Nook without appropriate consent, contact us so we can review and delete it where required.

We may update this policy as Recipe Nook changes, as provider choices change, or as legal requirements evolve. We will post the updated policy here with a new effective date. Material changes may also be communicated in the app, on the website, or by email where appropriate.
